Uttar Pradesh will host the 2023 Khelo India University Games, the third edition of the event.
Lucknow will be the main host city for the multi-discipline event in which almost 6000 athletes from all over the country are expected to participate.
The event will comprise nearly 20 disciplines. Varanasi and Gautam Buddh Nagar could be used as additional venues in case the number increases.
The inaugural edition of the multi-discipline event was held in 2020 in Odisha while Karnataka was the host for the second edition held earlier this year.
Navneet Sehgal, UP’s Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Sports and Youth Welfare, says the preparation for the multi-sport event is already underway. “We are looking forward to hosting the Khelo India University Games next year. UP sports aligns with the vision our Hon’ble PM Narendra Modi ji and our Hon’ble CM Shri Yogi Adityanath ji have with regards to promoting sports across the country at all levels and encouraging maximum participation of youth.
“The games will happen across the state so that more and more universities in various cities get the opportunity to host this magnanimous event where around 4500 athletes are expected. It will be a great platform for athletes to showcase their talent.”
