PM at the forefront to promote sports among youth: Thakur
Nashik: Union minister of youth affairs and sports Anurag Thakur on Thurasday said one of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s trademark practices has been to mingle with the common people, understand and resolve their issues.
Thakur reached Nashik to attend PM Modi’s inauguration of the 27th National Youth Festival in the city.
“Ever since Modi became the Prime Minister, he has been interacting with people in different parts of the country. Based on people’s feedback, he has been announcing and implementing welfare schemes,” Thakur said, while interacting with reporters.
According to Thakur, the Prime Minister has been at the forefront to promote sports among the youth.
“This is the reason that India has been winning lots of medals in international sporting events in the last few years,” added Thakur.
Commenting on why Nashik was selected for this year’s sports event, Thakur said that Nashik had a very good climate and a historical importance. Responding to the queries, Thakur said that he was very fond of Mallakhamb, the ancient traditional sport of Maharashtra.
“All the sports once were a native part of some country. They were developed, popularised and now they are in Olympics. It may be noted that the United Nations declared June 21 as International Day of Yoga after Prime Minister Narendra Modi successfully persuaded them. We will also give similar treatment to the traditional games,” Thakur said.
Thakur mentioned the government will take measures to ensure sports development in the country during the next 25 years, highlighting that the country celebrates a century of independence as ‘Vikasit Bharat’ 2047.
Minister of state for health and family welfare Dr Bharti Pawar, Maharashtra minister of sports and youth welfare department Sanjay Bansode and others were also present at the meet.
