India’s bid to host 2036 Olympics is on the right path, says the ministry.
n a move to empower coaches, Sports Ministry is considering a proposal to introduce a TOPS-like scheme going forward. In the latest meeting of Mission Olympic Cell (MOC), it was proposed to create a group of elite coaches that will receive the support from government, a source close to the development confirmed. However, the proposal is in early stages and nothing detailed has been planned as of now. A detailed plan is expected in the due course of time.

The athletes under the TOPS scheme are extended support in foreign training, international competitions, and procuring equipments along with a stipend.
The selection for the scheme is done by MOC that reviews proposal of Athletes weekly and conducts regular assessment of their progress.

Updating on the 2036 Olympic bid, he said,” We are on track with the Olympic bid also. The elections are done at the International Olympic Committee and we are in consultation with the new President Kirsty Coventry. Once she assumes her charge, we will plan to present our bid.”
The ministry is also actively looking to end the administrative issues among the National Sports Federations (NSFs).”Wrestling crisis is solved and we are looking at more NSFs plagued with issues. Right now, the ministry is planning to end the stand-off in other federations,” he said.
