Ajit Sharan

IAS (Retd), Former Secretary, Ministry of Sports, Govt. Of India

Mr Ajit M. Sharan is a graduate of IIT Delhi and has subsequently done a Master’s in Business Administration from Louisiana State University in the US. He also has a Masters in Development Economics from the University of Wales in UK. As a Member of the Indian Administrative Service since 1979, Mr Sharan has held a variety of senior assignments in the Govt. of Haryana as well as in the Govt. of India.

He has held the positions of Principal Secretary for Power, Finance, Technical Education and Urban Development in the State.

In the Central Government, he has worked as Joint Secretary in the Department of Banking and Insurance during which period he has served on the Boards of Canara Bank and almost all the major public sector insurance companies.

He also served as Chairman and Managing Director of Oriental Insurance Company during this period. He was closely associated with the opening up of the insurance sector and the initial reforms in it.

More recently, he has worked as Secretary to the Government in the Ministries of Sports and Ayush.

Mr. Sharan has worked at the strategy and leadership level in the sectors of energy, government finances, health and sports. In almost all the assignments, Mr. Sharan’s main mandate has been formulation and implementation of policies in the relevant sector and providing strategic leadership to the organization. Mr Sharan superannuated from the IAS in 2017. His last assignment was as Secretary in the Ministry of Ayush where he led the national effort for celebration of International Day of Yoga and also initiated plans for setting up several national level institutions in the field of Ayurveda.

Currently, Mr Sharan is advising companies across several sectors on business strategy and corporate affairs. He also sits on the Board of several companies, including Dabur India Ltd and Capri Global Capital Ltd.

Prof. Dr Chinnappa Reddy got Doctoral degree in Physical Education apart from his Masters degree in Arts and Physical Education. He has a distinguished service for 36 years in University education as Professor and Director. After his superannuation from Sri Krishnadevaraya University, Anantapuram in 2003, he acted as the advisor to the Government of Andhra Pradesh, India on Physical Education and Sports from 2006 to 2009.

He was the convener for the World Military Games and vision 2020 and acted as organizing secretary for Pre Military Olympic scientific conference held at Hyderabad, India in 2007. He was the observer and selection committee member for the Indian University teams which participated in the World University Games. Basing on his outstanding accomplishment he was presented with “Man of the Year 2001” award by the American Biographical Institute.

His area of specialization is Biomechanics in sports, Research methodology and Sports management. He has presented 150 scientific articles in national and international seminars and conferences. He is an author for 6 books and under his supervision 24 Ph.D’s were awarded.

He was an official representative for 4 Olympics and 2 World Universidad held at Seoul, Atlanta, Sydney, Beijing, Tokyo and Bangkok respectively. He delivered key note address around 50 conferences.

He is a wholesome personality representing the university and state as a player, captain, manager, administrator, selector, examiner, teacher, evaluator and researcher. He is the President of National Association of Physical Education and Sports Sciences (NAPESS) since 2004 to till date.

Yogeshwar Dutt

Olympian

Yogeshwar Dutt was born 11th December, 1982, hailing from Sonipat, Haryana. Yogeshwar Dutt is one of the best Indian wrestlers at the world stage, who won bronze medal in the 2012 London Olympics. He is also Gold medallist in Commonwealth and Asian championships.

He was interested in Wrestling from a very young age and soon made his presence felt by doing well in the National Championships in 1998. He has also won the Bronze Medal in the 60 Kilogram segment at the 15th Asian Games.

Career

Dutt started practicing wrestling from the age of 8 years. He was always inspired by Balraj Pehlwan who belonged to his native village. Coach Raplh trained him and helped him reach where he is today.

  • Dutt won the Gold Medal in Common Wealth Games 2003.
  • Participated in the Men’s Freestyle 55kg and ranked 18th at the Athens Olympics in 2004
  •  Won bronze medal in the 60 kilogram category at the 15th Asian Games at Doha in 2006.
  • Won gold at Asian Championships in 2008 and ranked at 60kg freestyle event in the 9th in 2008 Summer Olympics.
  • Won bronze medal in the 2012 London Olympics.
  • He defeated Canada’s Jevon Balfour 10-0 in the finals and came up with a gold medal in the men’s 65 kg freestyle category in the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
  • After defeating Zalimkhan Yusuprov of Tajikistan, Dutt bagged a gold medal in the 65kg freestyle wrestling category.

Awards and Rewards
  • He received Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award in the year 2012 by Government of India.
  • For earning the bronze medal in the 2012 London Olympic, he received ₹10 million (US$150,000) cash reward from the Haryana Government, ₹5 million (US$74,000) from Rajasthan government, 4×4 vehicle from a PSU bank. Haryana government is planning to allocate him a land in Gurgaon of worth ₹250 million (US$3.7 million).

Dr. Arvind Arora graduated in the field of Medicine and then further specialized with MPhil and a PhD from the University of Cambridge, UK.

He is highly qualified with three masters and a doctorate to his credit. He is working as a Surgeon at the University Hospital in Cambridge since 2004. His main interest is in sports medicine & Trauma & Orthopaedics.

He has an extensive experience of working in UK and India on various healthcare projects and with Pharmaceutical companies. He excels in the field of project management and has successfully managed various projects in UK and India.

He has published various clinical research articles in various international meetings and international journals. He has been working with Sports scientists and Physiotherapists to further the boundaries in the field of Sports Medicine.
