LUCKNOW: Alluding to the epic Mahabharat, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday reminded residents of Meerut about the crucial role Hastinapur had played in India’s history about 5,000 years back. Now the district, already famous for its sports goods industry, would be known for the first sports university in the state, the CM said.
Addressing a Prabuddha Varg Sammelan, the ninth of the 18 which have been planned in each divisional headquarters of the state before the code of conduct for the local body elections is announced later this month, the CM said that Meerut’s sports items were marked under the government’s One District One Product scheme and had become Meerut’s identity.
“The 12-lane expressway helps one to cover the distance between Delhi and Meerut in about 45 minutes, a trip which earlier used to take three to four hours. Similar efforts are being made to shorten distances between Meerut and Baghpat and Meerut and Bulandshahr.
Once the Ganga Expressway is completed, one will be able to travel from Meerut to Lucknow in just 4.5 hours,” he said. The CM also congratulated Meerut for the first rapid rail being built between the city and Delhi, adding that “if you choose good people, then you get good results” and “when good governments come, development comes along with them”.
The CM said that Meerut is being developed as a smart city and an integrated traffic management system was being set up to make it a safe city as well. The ITMS, he said, would be developed as an integrated command and control centre.
Yogi Adityanath added that after Prime Minister Narendra Modi was elected to power in 2014, terrorism and Naxalism had been wiped out from the country. It is because of this double engine government, with BJP in power both in the Centre and state, that UP was witnessing better law and order. The state has become free of riots and curfews and there is respect for all faiths and guarantee of security to every citizen.
“Mafia and criminals used to stop girls from going to schools. Traders were forced to pay gunda tax. Nobody wanted to invest in UP. Now, the situation has changed and our government is providing security to women and businessmen,” he added.
