Boxing gets IOC nod for inclusion at 2028 Los Angeles Olympics

This decision represents one of the final votes to be administered under IOC president Thomas Bach’s leadership, as his 12-year term approaches its conclusion. The selection of Bach’s replacement as the IOC president will be determined through a voting process later on Thursday.
Bach had earlier issued a caution that boxing’s national federations required a new and “reliable” international governing body to secure its place at the 2028 Games.
The IOC had granted provisional recognition to World Boxing in the previous month, establishing it as the organisation to supervise the sport in upcoming Olympic events.
The IOC presidential race, meanwhile, features seven contenders, with IOC veteran Juan Antonio Samaranch Junior, World Athletics president Sebastian Coe and former Olympic swimmer Kirsty Coventry of Zimbabwe emerging as the leading candidates.
