NEW DELHI: Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya announced a comprehensive strategy aimed at enhancing India’s sports landscape, with the ultimate goal of hosting the Olympics in 2036.
During a program in Madhya Pradesh’s capital, Bhopal, which also saw the launch of the state’s first Fit India Club, Mandaviya, alongside Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, highlighted the nation’s ambition to rank among the top 10 in international sports within the next decade.

This initiative aligns with the vision to elevate India’s sports standing to the top 5 by the centenary year of its independence, as part of a broader objective articulated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“PM Modi ji said we will organise the Olympics in 2036. He said India would have to achieve the 1 to 10 ranking in international sports in the next ten years. When the country celebrates the centenary year of Independence, we have to improve the sports ranking on a 1 to 5 scale in the sports sector,” the Union minister for Sports and Youth Affairs said.
To realize this vision, a detailed action plan has been put in place, focusing on the identification and development of young talent through the Khelo India school games, targeting boys aged 9 to 15.

Additionally, there is a concerted effort to expand sports infrastructure, engaging the youth to propel India to a leading position in the global sports arena by 2036.

“We are moving ahead with a comprehensive planning. India is changing and moving ahead under the leadership of PM Modi,” he added.

The launch event also served as a platform to unveil the kit for Madhya Pradesh athletes participating in the upcoming National Games in Uttarakhand, and to kickstart the “Khelo Badho Abhiyan” initiative in the state.

Various sports infrastructure projects were inaugurated, underscoring the commitment to fostering a conducive environment for sports.

Chief Minister Yadav emphasized the Madhya Pradesh government’s dedication to youth welfare, highlighting the Fit India Club’s role in promoting holistic development across physical, mental, and spiritual dimensions for athletes of all ages and backgrounds.
