Fifa set to bring World Cup forward by a day so Qatar can play first

The 2022 Fifa World Cup is set to begin on November 20, a day earlier than originally scheduled, so that host nation Qatar can play in the tournament’s opening match.

The tournament was set to begin with the match between Senegal and the Netherlands at Al-Thumama Stadium on November 21, but officials have submitted a request to rearrange the schedule so that Qatar’s match against Ecuador, originally due to be held at Al Bayt Stadium later that day, is played first.
