LUCKNOW: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday said that around 500 government jobs under sports quota would soon be available in various departments including police. Inaugurating the Sansad Khel Mahotsav in Basti, Yogi reiterated that UP sportspersons winning medals in international events will
be given government jobs.

The government has given jobs to 500 athletes till now, which included appointment to posts of deputy SP and naib tehsildar. He said that 500 new posts were being created under a sports quota with a 2% quota. “Players who win medals internationally will not only get government jobs but will also be provided with lifelong support for their sustenance,” the CM said.

“The government has launched an initiative to establish a sports centre in each district and UP has also pledged
to enhance its programmes for sports and players. Every village will have a sports field and an open gym. The
construction of a stadium in every district and a mini stadium in every development block level is in progress,” the CM said.

He said sporting events such as Sansad Khel Mahotsav provide opportunities to youth to showcase their strength and abilities.

He said his government has provided 65,000 sports-kits to Yuva Mangal Dal and Mahila Mangal Dal – the team of youth entrusted with the job of promoting sporting facilities at the gram panchayat level. Yogi said the country is witnessing the emergence of ‘New India’ in which all sections of the society are getting due benefits without any  discrimination. The CM said that under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, the country has graduated from the  world’s 11th economy to 5th economy. “The coming time is crucial, and Bharat has to establish itself as the third biggest economy,” he said. “For this every citizen has to be associated,” he said.

Congratulating BJP president JP Nadda for the party’s victory in three state elections recently, Yogi said that over
the past nine years, the country had witnessed the growth of a new India where work had been done without
discrimination, where people from all castes, regions and religions had benefitted from government
programmes and schemes.

Crediting Nadda for the development of health facilities in Basti, the CM said that it was during his tenure as
union health minister that Basti got its medical college. Even the AIIMS in Gorakhpur was his contribution, he
added. “Nadda Ji visited eastern UP as health minister to address issues like encephalitis. While he was concerned
at the situation he also devised effective plans to tackle the situation. This disease, which claimed the lives of
50,000 children in Eastern UP over 40 years, has now been completely controlled and eliminated, and Nadda Ji’s
significant role as the health minister under PM Modi’s leadership is evident in this achievement,” he said.
